Mixfader World Battle is an online competition where each participant will submit a video of him/her carrying out a scratch performance with a with a portable scratch setup as defined in the section “Conditions of participation and authorized set-up configurations”
At each stage of the competition, a panel of judges designated by Mixfader will evaluate participants scratch performances and pick the best ones. Participants who will be picked will take part in the next Round.
DJIT SAS, is an SAS with a capital of 1734 euros, registered to the RCS of Nanterre under the number 513 627 299, with its Headquarters located in 54 Avenue du Général Leclerc, Boulogne Billancourt 92100 - France ; who designs and distributes Mixfader products, Hereinafter referred to as: « DJIT » or « Mixfader » or « the Brand» or « the Organizer », organizes an online scratch competition (hereinafter « Mixfader World Battle » or « MWB »)
Participants’ scratch performances will be assessed and rated by a panel of 8 judges, among whom scratch champions and experts:
- JFB, three-times DMC UK Champion
- Mr Switch, DMC World Champion
- DJ IQ, multiple-times IDA and DMC Champion
- Underkut - founder of Openformat website
- DJ Excess, member of the Ned Hoddings crew, as well as legendary turntablist and producer
- Ugly Mac Beer, famous French producer and turntablist and founder of Beatsqueeze vinyl Records label
- Antriks from the American collective Battle Avenue
- DJ Ranek, turntablist, producer and official representative/ambassador of Mixfader brand
- Technical Scratch skills: 60%
- Originality: 20%
- Musicality: 20%
At each step of the battle, each judge will assess and rate participants. The participants with the best average rating will be selected to be part of the next Round.
In case of ex-aequo, the participant who will have uploaded its video first will be selected.
MWB judges’ decisions are final and non negotiable.
AUTHORIZED SET-UP CONFIGURATIONS
The Battle is opened to all Mixfader holders and scratch portable setup holders. No registration fee is required (herinafter « participants »).
For all steps or rounds of the battle, participants will have to submit a video of them carrying out a scratch performance on a beat of their choice or on a provided beat, respecting a defined time limit (the beat and video length parameters vary depending on the step of the competition).
The use of a portable setup and a Mixfader as the crossfader in the scratch performance video is required.
A portable setup can be any (physical) portable turntable, or a touchscreen turntable (on smartphone and tablet).
Participants can choose to scratch on the vinyl type of their choice: standard audio vinyl, timecode vinyl or touchscreen vinyl (smartphone/tablet).
Whatever the setup participants choose to use, they will need to download the app Mixfader dj in order to connect and use their Mixfader. Or participants can choose to connect their Mixfader in Midi and use a third-party software (like Traktor, ou Mixvibes for example ...)

Participants can only register once: only one video by participant.
Participants must not, in any way, pitch or edit the beats provided by the Organizer of MWB (during Rounds 2, 3 and 4).
Any minor under the age of 13 participating in the Battle has to participate in the supervision and with the consent of their parents or holder(s) of parental authority, or his/her legal guardian(s).
If participants do not respect the conditions and authorized set-up configurations as defined in these Rules, their participation won’t be taken into account and/or can be annulled.
Mixfader World Battle will run from May 22nd 2017 to July 26th 2017 (scheduled date for the final results announcement - this date can evolve in case of delay in of assessment submission by the judges)
MWB will count 4 stages or « Rounds » total. Round 1 is an elimination phase. Judges will assess all participants and pick the 8 best performers (« The Top 8 ») who will compete in Round 2 during 1 Vs 1 Battles. Each battle pair for Round 2 will be randomly determined and positioned into a tournament bracket. This bracket will determine future pairings for each round of MWB competition.
For Round 2, Judges will assess and pick the 4 best performers of each battles (« The Top 4 »). The Top 4 will then compete during 1 Vs 1 battles at Round 3 (pairing depending on the bracket). Judges will then assess the performances and pick the winners of each Round 3 battle (« The Top 2 ») who will participate to the final Battle in Round 4.
A battle opposing the defeated participants in Round 3 will also be held during Round 4 in order to appoint who will win the third place (third-place play-off)
Round 1 - Elimination phase
For this round 1, participants are free to choose the instrumental or « beat » of their choice.

- 16th June: Opening of video uploads
- 26th June (included): Closing of video uploads
- 28th June: Announcement of the results of the Top 4 selected by judges for the round 3
For this round 3, participants will have to scratch on a provided beat as fixed by Mixfader. The imposed beat will be directly downloadable on MWB’s website at reveal of Round 2 results. Reminder: participants are not allowed to pitch or edit the beat provided for this round.
Imposed length of the submitted video: 1 minute 30 seconds
Participants to round 3 will submit their video by e-mail. (the e-mail address will be notified to participants of this round later in the competition, by mail)

- 30th June: Opening of video uploads
- 10th July (included): Closing of video uploads
- 12th July: Announcement of the results of the Top 2 selected by judges for the last round
For this round 4, participants will have to scratch on a provided beat as fixed by Mixfader. The imposed beat will be directly downloadable on MWB’s website at reveal of Round 3 results. Reminder: participants are not allowed to pitch or edit the beat provided for this round.
Imposed length of the submitted video : 2 minutes
Participants to round 4 will submit their video by e-mail. (the e-mail address will be notified to participants of this round later in the competition, by mail)
Participation dates for Round 4:
- 12th July: Opening of video uploads
- 21st July (included) : Closing of video uploads
- 26th July: Announcement of the results of the Grand-Finale and the third-party play-off
WAYS TO INFORM THE WINNERS
Each step of the way, participants who have been selected for the next step will be informed of the results by email.
The top three winners of the Battle will win:
- a check worth 3000 $ (USD) for the final winner of Mixfader World Battle
- a check worth 1000 $ (USD) for the second
- a check worth 500 $ (USD) for the third

DJiT reserves the right to replace the prize(s) with prize(s) of equivalent value, without any claim made in this regard.
Video editing is not accepted. There are no restrictions on creative film presentation ie multi camera angles, blue screen techniques, video back-drop, they are all permitted but the participant must submit a non stop 1 minute performance video for round 1 (1:30 for round 2 and 3; and 2 minutes for the round 4). The performing DJs must be in camera shot at all times.
A participant can be disqualified if it is obvious to judges or the organizers of the Battle that the video has been edited.
- A participant can also be disqualified, if his/her video has not been submitted within the upload timeframe defined in these Rules. (unless it has been proved that the participant had problems with the upload or sending of the video, then the Organizer reserve the right to assess if the participation can still be accepted...)
OBLIGATION AND COMMITMENT OF THE PARTICIPANTS
By entering this competition, participants accept the present Rules fixed by Mixfader without any reservation and commit to respect them.
In addition, by taking part in the competition, participants authorize Mixfader to use their image (picture(s), image(s), video(s), name(s), likeness, prize statement(s),....) and performance(s) during the MWB competition for publicity and commercial purposes, in relation to MWB and/or Mixfader brand during and after the competition.
Each participant states that he is not linked by any exclusivity contract prejudicing the use, distribution and/or operation of its image and performance.
Participants’ content, including pictures, videos, comments that participants could post on any MWB communication channel isn’t and won’t be offensive, abusive, defamatory, obscene, racist, sexually explicit, ethnically or culturally offensive indecent, won’t promote violence, terrorism, or illegal acts, or incites hatred based on race, sex, religion or sexual orientation.
By entering this competition, participants declare and guarantee that their content will not violate rights of third parties including, without limitation, intellectual property rights, performers' rights, privacy or advertising rights, or rights linked to confidential information.
Participants’ content isn’t the responsibility of the Organizer, its subsidiaries, affiliated companies, successors and assignees, and of its employees, agents, executors, administrators, executors and shareholders.
No financial compensation or expense in any form whatsoever shall be claimed to the Organizer.
The information that participants of the Battle communicate may be added to the Organizer’s consumers file, for the purpose of prospecting and retention and to possibly send you information about the Organizer’s products. You have a right of access, rectification and opposition to your data. To exercise this right, please write an email to the following address: email@example.com
The present Rules are subject to French law. Any dispute, controversy or claim arising out of or in connection with the competition MWB shall be submitted to and arbitrated by the jurisdiction of the competent Paris courts. No complaints shall be accepted after a period of two months following the results disclosure date.
An English version of this test is available but should a dispute arise about interpretation the French text shall prevail as the reference.
The Organizer reserves the right to shorten, extend, modify or cancel the competition if circumstances so require, and its liability can’t be incurred.
